An Average Night on Androkles

Intense insights and a delightful short story.

There is NOTHING average about this epic little story despite its name! It's a very welcome addition to the Imperial Hammer series that adds more personality and depth to Danny's character as well as the origin of Varg, Danny's Parawolf.

I thoroughly enjoyed the totally immersive experience of Cam Cooper's story telling, it's succinct and yet rich in the details that drew me into Danny's spacer world. There is a lot packed into this short story, with interesting character interactions and an intense adventure crisis too.
I would highly recommend this book as part of the Imperial Hammer Series: either after reading book four (upon release) like me, or if you are just starting, then in the correct book series order.

An Average Night on Ndrokles

An Average Night on Androkles is fun short story from Cameron Cooper. It not only fills in some background but it elevates Danny from a nonstop action hero to a real person with whom you can relate.
I think that my favorite scene is with the lieutenant and how she handles him.
Definitely a must read!

A short story that answers a few questions

Here is a little short story set in the Imperial Hammer series, that takes place after book One. Danny and her crew are on Androkles and keeping the usual low profile. Except Danny never can do that and things just happen. I loved that we get to find out a bit of the back story and adventures of the Supreme Lythion and it's crew. I always like it when others discover that Danny is so much more than the Imperial Hammer and quite likable. A nice story to round out some of the questions I had. A very nice space opera series.

I was already in a pickle before Lyth, the shipmind, told me a lieutenant from the Imperial Shield was demanding to speak to me.

I got up from the sofa Lyth had hastily constructed for me before I left earlier in the evening, and moved to where he hovered by the door. I lowered my voice so Jurick wouldn’t hear me. “Here? Now?” I asked Lyth…or rather, his nanobot avatar.

I glanced at Jurick. The man who thought he was my date sat with casual elegance on the other side of the sofa, showing only polite and mild interest in my domestic interruption. He was my first problem. He thought I’d brought him back to my ship, The Supreme Lythion, for drinks and for anything else we might feel should naturally follow. I, on the other hand, had purely business in mind.

Or I had, before I’d got to know him a little. Now I was cursing myself because Jurick was damned fine company, but as soon as I shifted the conversation to business, that would end.

My second problem, now, was that an Imperial Shield officer wanted to interrupt my quandary.

Lyth gave a tiny shrug. “The man is Imperial Shield, Captain. No one says ‘no’ to them.”

Only, I had given the Imperial Shield a comprehensive “no” only three months ago when, for a couple of complicated reasons, I’d busted out of the Emperor’s Crystal City. I’d been living deep and silent since then. Having one of them turn up on my doorstep was the core of the problem.
