As always, the worldbuilding by this author is outstanding, awesome (in all the best possible ways), and more than a little mind-boggling. The main characters step into a world where things move around, a compass can’t direct you to where you want to go, time is different, and there is no cellphone coverage — an impossibly different realm. The story is absorbing and incredibly original; the characters are interesting and fully developed. It is a great read!
Veilbound is currently a stand alone novelette by Canadian author Taylen Carver but is the lead in into a new series coming soon.
The short story is about two seemingly very different people needing to work together to save an innocent child. If they don’t succeed their own world as well as a connected, parallel world will be destroyed.
The novelette is very well written, captivating and full of fresh ideas about the interaction and dependence of two different worlds connected by chaos. It is setting a stage that makes curious where this may lead. I can’t wait to read the new series.
What I love about Taylen’s writing is the deep morality without judgement at the core of her stories. Well meaning people do bad things based on beliefs resulting from misconceptions because of lack of knowledge or facts. People who don’t think of themselves as heroes step up to do what must be done.
