Reading Requires Trust

from SRP author Mark Posey:

Lately, I’ve found myself becoming much more cautious as a reader. Not because I love books any less. Probably the opposite. But because it’s becoming harder to know what’s real anymore.

A good cover used to mean something. A compelling description used to mean something. Now, more and more often, readers are discovering books that feel rushed, hollow, or strangely lifeless once they get a few chapters in. A lot of that has to do with the flood of AI-generated material hitting retailers right now.

And I think readers are getting tired. I know I am. Because the truth is, reading isn’t just “content consumption.” At least not for me. Reading is time. Emotional investment. Trust. You’re handing several hours of your life over to another person and hoping they take you somewhere worthwhile.

That matters.

The books and stories that stay with me are never perfect because they were manufactured perfectly. They stay with me because they feel human. Because somewhere inside them is a real person trying to say something honest, exciting, emotional, funny, heartbreaking, thrilling, or hopeful.

That’s the kind of storytelling I’ve always tried to write. And honestly, it’s one of the reasons I’m proud to be part of Stories Rule Press. One thing I genuinely love about SRP is that even though all of us write very different genres, we all care about the same thing: giving readers stories worth their time. That’s becoming more important now, not less.

So if you’ve enjoyed my books and haven’t yet tried Tracy Cooper-Posey, Taylen Carver, or Cameron Cooper, maybe give them a look sometime. You might discover a new favorite author.

And these days, finding one of those feels pretty special.
