CAMLANN By Tracy Cooper-Posey

I have LOVED every book in this series, and this is a bittersweet end to the saga. Camlann is another reminder that this series is not directly the story of King Arthur, but the stories of individuals who happen to occupy Camelot and Britain at that time. Those characters and stories continue here. While Arthur and the end of his reign are present in this story, they are not the focus of the book. Constantine and Morfydd are wonderfully complex and engaging characters who perfectly frame the events of this book. Tracy managed to find hope even in this dark period of history, and this well-rounded story grabbed my attention early and kept it until the very last page. I highly recommend this entire series and am just sorry it is over!

Camlann is the last book in this outstanding Arthurian series. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. What an ending!

In addition to Camlann, I have read all of the previous books in this long and beautifully textured Arthurian saga. Looking back, this is a little surprising for me, because I was not very interested in reading about either King Arthur or that particular time in history. But rules, even personal ones, are occasionally meant to be broken. I had read other books by this author, thought they were terrific, and decided that I’d give the Once and Future Hearts series a try. I’m so glad I did! The beauty and joy of the Once and Future Hearts series, and in this final book in particular, lie in its people. These characters are not just well-rounded but are thoroughly real and intensely human, in a way that I have rarely seen and cannot begin to explain. The story of Morfydd and Constantine, set in Camelot’s waning days, is the perfect final chapter to this cycle of the Arthurian legend. The writing is eloquent and elegiac, as befits the end of the period, drawing the reader ever deeper into that world.

It is a wondrous experience to sink so deeply into a story that “you are there” moments are part of the experience. I found that to be true more than once while reading Camlann. The author’s sense of humor comes through here and there, offering sparks of lightness in what could otherwise be a sad and dark tale. An utterly delightful moment for fans who read other series by this author (like me!) was found in the first quarter of the book: the brief appearance of Veris, a very young soldier who arrived with Constantine and his company.

I enjoyed this final book of the series. The storytelling is enthralling, with all those little details that add up to a big finish. The characters are vividly realistic and I can actually believe that they really existed.

I find myself sorry that the series is over but thrilled by how it ended. I will miss all of the characters and their stories. This is truly an excellent finale.

Camlann, Once and Future Hearts 12.0, by Tracy Cooper Posey takes place in the waning days of Arthur’s world. This last in the series wraps up a storyline, but still ends with hope and new beginnings.

I love how Tracy includes historical and literary characters, historical facts, and an authentic timeline; all while bringing the characters to life and making them relatable.

Thank you for this story and thank you for this great series.

Camlann, by Tracy Cooper-Posey, is the twelfth and final installment in the Once and Future Hearts series, set within the Arthurian legend. Despite my loathing of the Arthurian legend, this series was phenomenal and worth the read. Yes, the main thread is the legend, but the weaving of it through all the other characters is what makes it so wonderful. Morfydd and Constantine are the perfect capstone to bring everything to where it needed to go. This Lancelot is the one to remember. Only Cooper-Posey could make such a complete tapestry to rival, actually exceed, that of Bayeux.

I can't believe this is really the last book in the series. I said it before but it's still true: I'm a trained historian and almost everybody knows about the arthurian cycle but, it speaks volumes about the author's craft that I completely forgot about how it was going to end, that's how immersed I was in the story. At the end I cried, of course I did. It was beautiful, with so much respect and, sometimes we even forget due to the currently state of the world, hope. And that's priceless.

Camlann is incredibly good! The characters are so real that you will feel like you’re sitting at their table or riding on the road beside them. The final days of Camelot are sensitively and imaginatively described through the eyes of Morfydd of Orkney and Constantine, King Arthur’s heir. It is a beautiful and sweeping tale of hope in the face of impossible odds along with a bone deep determination that, win or lose, the heart of Britain will live on.
